RED DRESS PARTY

A Red Dress Party is in the works for the Mother Lode, on May 22, 2010. The color red has long been tied to AIDS awareness. The Red Dress Party takes that color connection to a playful extreme. We are encouraging everyone to wear a Red Dress to this event; whether you are male, female, gay or straight, young or old.

Communities around the country are holding Red Dress Parties where the visual impact of all attendees in red dresses serves as a powerful symbol of solidarity for people living with HIV/AIDS. “That is our goal,” says Fundraising Chairperson Sandy Fuller. “We are not asking everyone to come in drag for this event— but if you want to, go for it! If not, throw a red dress over your blue jeans; put on a pair of sneakers, and you’ll be good to go. Corporal Klinger from “MASH” would be a perfect fit for this party. We simply want to raise awareness about AIDS and raise money for Sierra HOPE while we are having fun.” Tickets will go on sale March 1 ~ $35 advance purchase & $45 at the door.

Modeled after the celebrated and very successful fundraising event in Portland, that now attracts over 2000 people, our local event promises to be great fun.
Last year, at the Portland party, Chelsea Clinton dropped in to revel with the crowd.

Fuller says, “We have secured a lovely and private venue in a late 1800’s Victorian Home, located in San Andreas. Chef David Ingram, owner of “Your Place or Mine,” will surprise us with a creative culinary menu. We are seeking a local band to provide dancing and entertainment and a no-host bar will also be available.” This is a 21 or over event ~ IDs will be checked.

Wondering where to find that perfect Red Dress? Try local Thrift Shops, Costume Stores or GOOGLE “Red Dresses.” EBay has hundreds of dresses to choose from in all sizes, some for only $12.

For those who just can’t see themselves in a Red Dress, you are also welcome to party with us, but you will be required to purchase a special “permission to be undressed pass” at the door for an additional $15.
