History of the Red Dress Party:
Our event is being modeled after the celebrated and very successful fundraising event in Portland, Oregon, now in its tenth year and attracting over 2,000 people. The party planners hope was to raise awareness for those living with AIDS and HIV. They hoped the visual impact of all the attendees wearing a Red Dress would serve as a powerful symbol of solidarity for our friends and neighbors who are courageously living with this disease. In 2008, Chelsea Clinton, an ardent advocate of AIDS awareness, dropped in on the Portland party. Communities all around the country are holding Red Dress parties for the same fundraising purpose.
In 2010, Sierra HOPE, celebrated its 20th year serving three foothill counties, held its first Red Dress Party in May 2010. Almost 100 people attended and the enthusiastic feedback was, "please do it again." So, the second annual party was on May 14, 2011 at Munari Vineyards and Winery, in Murphys, California.
