New Transitional Housing project opens
Sierra HOPE’s new Transitional Family Shelter can provide housing, education and services for up to 5 families with children. Transitional Housing is a supportive and temporary accommodation designed to bridge the gap from homelessness to permanent housing by offering structure, supervision, support, life skills, education and training to those individuals or families who struggle to maintain permanent housing.
The 5 bedroom house was purchased in December 2019 with private donations and has been undergoing renovations to add 2 new bathrooms, improve accessibility, and make several other upgrades. Calaveras County, Pinnell’s Carpet One, Union Congregational Church of Angels Camp, and First Congregational Church of Murphys provided significant support for the renovation project.
Our first residents moved in in November and we anticipate being at full capacity in January 2021. The Transitional House is overseen by a Housing Case Manager who is a full time staff member of Sierra HOPE, and there is also a resident “house mother” who lives on site.
