In the first study of its kind conducted recently in Santa Clara, people were 81% less likely to be homeless within six months after receiving financial aid through the Santa Clara County Homelessness Prevention System. Similarly, people who receive emergency financial assistance from Sierra Hope are less likely to become homeless.

PS: According to the study, which was published earlier this year in The Review of Economics and Statistics, communities get $2.47 in benefits for every dollar they spend on emergency financial assistance.
