Since 1989 when Sierra Hope was founded, we’ve offered a food pantry program. Initially it was for our AIDS program participants, but before long we could see an overall need in the communities we serve and so opened it to anyone who was in need of assistance.
In the past, we’ve relied on grants to fund this program, but this year we are launching an important new program to add stability to our Food Pantry Program – the Heroes Fighting Hunger program. Sierra HOPE is seeking our inaugural 25 individuals who will commit to contributing $25 each month for one year. Because this is a program serving an important basic human need, the predictability this will bring to the food pantry will add an important element of stability which is especially important as food costs have increased by 12% over last year. All participants will be recognized on our Heroes Fighting Hunger web page year after year and will receive a special pin with the Heroes design to show your support and inform others of the opportunity to contribute. |
The Sierra HOPE food pantry is open every Wednesday and is staffed entirely by volunteers. During the first 6 months of 2021 we served 15-20 families each week, an average of approximately 70 families over the course of a month.
Our pantry offers a variety of nutritious foods every week of the year and during the holidays we try to add a little extra cheer. Last year we were able to distribute more than 80 turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas as Sierra Hope is able to negotiate special prices to make these purchases. Your generous support will allow us to continue this effort.
The Sierra Hope food pantry continues to serve families each week following COVID-19 guidelines. To become one the next 25 let Jerry know. Jerry Cadotte (jerry@sierrahope.org).
