Introducing Sierra HOPE's Hand Up Annual Campaign
Sierra HOPE has always been known through our annual Walk for Hope at Big Trees State Park, now in its 27th year!
This year, Sierra HOPE is launching a bold new annual fundraiser. Yes, we’re trying to raise money, but we also wanted to start a new tradition with an ongoing effort to help our subscribers, donors, partners, and community gain insights into the economic conditions experienced by many residents in the tri-county area.
People experiencing housing and food insecurities should contact Sierra HOPE because that’s what we do, help people make it through and back to stability. We want to tell the stories of the staff and the resiliency of the people that Sierra HOPE has been able to help thanks to our grants, contracts, and your generous support. We want to tell you stories of hope.
Many of these stories are well hidden, and most people don’t know and don’t see the incredible need that exists in Calaveras County and the foothills overall. We can help people know more about this important issue, and we can let people know how they can help.
That is the goal of this campaign.
Expect to see stories from staff, stories about clients, and stories about the issues of homelessness and hunger in our communities. But first, we wanted to set the stage with this thought-provoking piece.
What Would You Do If You Had $86,400 Every Day?
(Author Unknown)
Imagine there is a bank which credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day, allows you to keep no cash balance, and every evening cancels whatever part of the amount you had failed to use during the day.
What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course!
Well, everyone has such a bank. Its name is TIME. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds.
Every night it writes off as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest in a good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day, it opens a new account for you. Each night, it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the “tomorrow.”
You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it so as to get the most from it in terms of health, happiness, and success! The clock is running. Make the most of today.
To realize the value of ONE YEAR, ask a student who has failed a grade.
To realize the value of ONE MONTH, ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.
To realize the value of ONE WEEK, ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realize the value of ONE DAY, ask a daily wage laborer who has kids to feed.
To realize the value of ONE HOUR, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realize the value of ONE MINUTE, ask a person who has missed the train.
To realize the value of ONE SECOND, ask a person who has avoided an accident.
To realize the value of ONE MILLI-SECOND, ask the person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics.
Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it MORE because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with; and remember that time waits for no one.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift.
That’s why it’s called the present!
Donate and make a difference!
